Mr. Schnepp

Chris Schnepp is a sixth grade math teacher at IPS School 43. He has been teaching for 30 years.

“That’s a long time, isn’t it?” he said.

“Ever since I was young it is something I wanted to do,” he said about teaching. “At first, I did it because I wanted to coach sports and not have to work in the summer.” But then he was hooked. “I just enjoyed teaching and helping kids learn. Just being around kids.”

Mr. Schnepp said his childhood was kind of rough and he grew up poor, which helps him understand some of the kids he teaches.

He enjoys sports — playing basketball and Wiffleball.

Mr. Schnepp has taught in different schools, including in Fishers, Indiana, which was small when he went there, but now has two high schools with  over 3,000 students in each. He also was an elementary, middle school and high school principal in Alexandria, Indiana, for 14 years.

Mr. Schnepp  said he loves the challenges of teaching. “I’m hoping to be able to help the kids at this school, no matter what background they come from. If they can work hard, they can be successful.”
